Common Hotpoint Washing Machine Faults & Error Codes

These are the faults we see most often on Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines — from genuine day-to-day experience over 30 years.

F05

Not Draining

One of the most common Hotpoint faults. Usually a blocked pump filter, failed drain pump, or blocked drain hose. Check and clean the filter first — it's accessible without an engineer and may save you a call-out.

F06

Door Lock Fault

Door interlock fault — machine won't start or stops mid-cycle with the door locked. A common wear item on Hotpoint and Indesit machines. Door interlocks are carried as standard and most are straightforward to replace.

F08

Heating Element Fault

Heating element failure — machine runs normally but water isn't heating, leaving clothes not properly cleaned. Can also trip the RCD. Common in hard water areas where limescale damages the element over time. Elements carried as standard.

F01

Main Board Fault

F01 indicates a motor triac fault on the main board — the board has failed and needs replacing. Not the most common fault but one we see regularly on Hotpoint machines. Board replacement is the usual outcome once properly diagnosed.

Often no code

Motor Brush Wear

Common on older Hotpoint and Indesit machines. The machine may struggle to spin, spin intermittently, or stop altogether — often with no error code displayed. Brushes are a straightforward and inexpensive fix. Carried as standard.

Mechanical

Drum Bearings

A rumbling noise during spin is usually worn drum bearings — a fault we see regularly on Hotpoint machines, particularly on larger capacity models. Bearing replacement is a significant repair and the economics depend on the age and condition of the machine. We'll always give you an honest assessment.

Mechanical

Dispenser Housing Leak

Water leaking from or around the detergent dispenser is a fault we see regularly on Hotpoint machines. The dispenser housing or connecting hose can crack or fail over time, allowing water to escape during the wash cycle. Replacement parts are available and the repair is straightforward.

Indesit

Entry level spec with many components shared with Hotpoint. Simpler machines but the same fault profile — F05 drainage, F06 door lock, F08 heating and motor brush wear are all common. Parts availability is good and most repairs are cost-effective.

Indesit washing machine repair

Whirlpool

Whirlpool is part of the same group as Hotpoint and Indesit. Parts tend to differ from the Hotpoint/Indesit platform but availability is generally good. We repair Whirlpool washing machines across the same service area.
