Bosch Tumble Dryer Repairs

Energy efficient, gentle on clothes — and worth fixing.

Bosch tumble dryers are among the most energy efficient on the market — the brand now produces almost exclusively heat pump models, using refrigeration technology rather than a simple heating element to dry clothes more gently and at a fraction of the running cost. Well built, parts are readily available across the group, and in most cases worth repairing.

At Bath Washco we repair all Bosch tumble dryer types — heat pump, condenser and older vented models — across Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset. We carry Bosch tumble dryer parts in the van as standard and most repairs are completed in a single visit. Not sure which type you have or how they differ? Our tumble dryer types guide explains everything.

Bosch Tumble Dryer Faults Section

From 30 Years of Bosch, Siemens & Neff Repairs

Common Bosch Tumble Dryer Faults

These are the faults we see most often on Bosch tumble dryers — from genuine day-to-day experience over 30 years across heat pump, condenser and vented models.

Heat pump / Condenser

Poor Drying

The most common fault on heat pump and condenser models — a blocked heat exchanger or condenser restricting airflow. Regular cleaning of the heat exchanger is essential on heat pump dryers. Neglect it and efficiency drops significantly. Check and clean filters first before calling us out.

Clean filters first — may save a call-out

All types

Cutting Out Early

Machine stops mid-cycle — usually a tripped thermostat caused by restricted airflow from blocked filters or a blocked condenser. On vented models a kinked or blocked vent hose is a common cause. Unlike some safety cutouts, the thermostat won't reset on its own — it either needs manually resetting or replacing depending on the type of fault.

Check filters and airflow first

All types

Not Tumbling

Drum not rotating — usually a snapped belt or worn pulley. Belt and pulley failure is common on all dryer types through general wear and tear. Straightforward repair, parts carried as standard.

Heat pump

Temperature Sensor Failure

Fairly common on heat pump models — a failed temperature sensor causes the machine to shut down or not heat properly. Needs proper diagnosis to confirm before parts are ordered.

Diagnosis required first

Heat pump

Heat Pump Compressor Failure

The most significant heat pump dryer fault. Compressor failure means the refrigerant circuit isn't working — the machine won't heat effectively. An expensive repair and often tips into replacement territory depending on the machine's age and condition. We'll always give you an honest assessment.

All types

Capacitor Failure

Motor capacitor failure causes the drum motor to struggle to start or stop running altogether. Less common on Bosch than some other brands but does occur. Straightforward repair — capacitors are inexpensive and carried as standard.

Capacitors carried as standard

Condenser / Vented

Element Tripping RCD

Heating element failure causing the RCD to trip — moisture ingress or general element degradation causes an earth fault. More common on condenser and vented models which use a traditional heating element. Element needs replacing.

Elements carried as standard

Mechanical

Door Handle

Door handles break on older Bosch tumble dryers — a known weakness on certain models. Straightforward replacement once the correct part is sourced. We carry handles for the most common Bosch models.

Dryer Types We Repair

Heat Pump, Condenser & Vented — All Covered

Bosch now produces almost exclusively heat pump dryers, but we repair older condenser and vented models too. Not sure which type you have? Our tumble dryer types guide explains the differences in detail.

Heat Pump

The current Bosch standard. Uses refrigeration technology to recycle heat rather than generating it from an element — significantly more energy efficient and gentler on clothes. Runs at lower temperatures so takes longer to dry, but running costs are a fraction of older dryer types. More complex to repair but generally worth it given the cost of replacement.

A+++ energy rating — worth repairing

Condenser

Older Bosch condenser dryers use a heating element rather than a heat pump. No external vent required — moisture is collected in a tank. Common faults include blocked condensers, thermostat failures, belt wear, element tripping the RCD, and capacitor failure. Simpler to repair than heat pump models. Parts are still available for most models.

Straightforward repairs — parts available

Vented

The simplest dryer type — a heating element warms air which passes through the drum and exits via a vent hose. Bosch no longer manufactures vented dryers but older models are still in use. Most common faults are belt and pulley wear, thermostat failure, capacitor failure, and element tripping the RCD. A blocked or kinked vent hose can also cause overheating issues and should be checked periodically.

Simple technology — easy to repair

Generally yes — most Bosch tumble dryer faults including belt failure, thermostat issues, capacitor failure and blocked condensers are cost-effective to repair. The main exception is heat pump compressor failure, where the repair cost often tips into replacement territory. We'll always give you an honest assessment. Our repair vs replace guide covers the key things to consider.
Poor drying or not drying at all is the most common complaint — usually caused by a blocked heat exchanger or condenser restricting airflow. On heat pump models, regular cleaning of the heat exchanger is essential. Belt and pulley failure and tripped thermostats are also very common across all Bosch dryer types.
The most likely cause is a blocked heat exchanger or condenser — lint builds up over time and restricts airflow, reducing drying efficiency significantly. Check and clean all accessible filters first. On heat pump models there are usually two filters — one in the door and one lower down. If cleaning the filters doesn't help, call us on 01225 429127.
Usually a tripped thermostat — caused by restricted airflow from blocked filters or a blocked condenser. Unlike some safety cutouts, the thermostat won't reset on its own. It either needs manually resetting or replacing depending on the type of fault. The underlying airflow issue needs addressing at the same time to prevent it happening again.
Yes — we repair all Bosch heat pump dryers. Most faults including blocked heat exchangers, temperature sensor failures, belt and pulley issues, and capacitor failure are straightforward to fix. Heat pump compressor failure is the one exception where repair vs replace needs careful consideration — we'll give you an honest steer on whether it's worth proceeding.
Yes — Siemens and Neff are in the same group as Bosch with shared parts platforms. We repair all three across heat pump, condenser and vented models. The fault profiles are broadly similar across the group so parts availability is good for all three brands.
Same-day and next-day appointments are often available across Bath, Chippenham, Trowbridge, Melksham, Keynsham, Radstock and Bradford on Avon. Call us on 01225 429127 to check availability.
