These are the faults we see most often on AEG, Zanussi and Electrolux washing machines — from genuine day-to-day experience over 30 years.
Not Draining
One of the most common AEG faults. Usually a blocked pump filter, failed drain pump, or blocked drain hose. EF1 specifically indicates a blocked drain filter. Check and clean the filter first — it's accessible without an engineer and may save you a call-out.

Door Lock Fault
Door interlock failure — machine won't start or stops mid-cycle with the door locked. Common across the AEG, Zanussi and Electrolux range. Door interlocks are a wear item and fail over time. Usually a straightforward replacement.

Motor Brush Wear
On older brush motor AEG machines, carbon brush wear is a common cause of the drum stopping or struggling to spin — and it often throws no error code at all. A cost-effective fix. Newer AEG models have brushless inverter motors and don't suffer from this fault.

Heating Element Fault
Element failure doesn't always throw an error code — the machine runs through the full cycle but the water never heats. Wash results are poor and clothes don't come out clean. E68 indicates current dispersion to earth, E69 a broken element. Elements carried as standard.

Noisy Drum Pulleys
Worn drum pulleys are a known weakness across AEG, Zanussi and Electrolux washing machines — more common on these brands than most. Causes a rumbling or grinding noise during the wash or spin cycle. Straightforward repair once diagnosed.

Drum Bearings
Drum bearing failure is a common occurrence on AEG, Zanussi and Electrolux machines. Unlike some other brands, most models in this group have a welded outer drum — meaning the entire drum assembly needs replacing rather than just the bearings. This makes it a significantly more expensive repair and in most cases tips into replacement territory. We'll always give you an honest assessment.

Mouldy Door Seal
Common on older machines used predominantly on cooler wash cycles. The rubber door gasket deteriorates over time, harbouring mould and eventually leaking. Straightforward replacement — seals stocked for most AEG models.

Flood Protection Activated
Water detected in the base tray — flood protection has triggered and the machine won't run. Can be a genuine leak from a door seal, hose or pump, or a faulty sensor. Needs proper diagnosis before the machine can be safely restarted.
