AEG Tumble Dryer Repairs

Reliable, efficient — and worth fixing when something goes wrong.

AEG tumble dryers are well-regarded machines — reliable, energy efficient, and part of the Electrolux Group alongside Zanussi and Electrolux. AEG now produce almost exclusively heat pump models, though older condenser and vented machines are still in regular use. Parts and diagnostic information are excellent across the group.

At Bath Washco we repair all AEG tumble dryer types across Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset — heat pump, condenser and vented. We've been servicing AEG dryers for over 30 years and carry parts as standard. Not sure which type you have? Our tumble dryer types guide explains the differences.

AEG Tumble Dryer Faults Section

From 30 Years of AEG, Zanussi & Electrolux Repairs

Common AEG Tumble Dryer Faults

These are the faults we see most often on AEG and Zanussi tumble dryers — from genuine day-to-day experience over 30 years across heat pump, condenser and vented models.

Heat pump / Condenser

Not Drying / Poor Drying

Most common fault on heat pump and condenser models — a blocked heat exchanger or condenser restricting airflow. Clean all accessible filters before calling us out. On heat pump models there are usually two filters — regular cleaning is essential to maintain drying performance.

Clean filters first — may save a call-out

Condenser / Vented

Cutting Out Early

Machine stops mid-cycle — usually a failed thermostat caused by restricted airflow from blocked filters or a blocked condenser. On AEG and Zanussi machines the thermostat simply fails and needs replacing — some are also integrated into the heater assembly. The underlying airflow issue must be addressed at the same time.

Thermostat replacement required

All types

Belt & Tension Pulley Failure

Drum not rotating — snapped belt or worn tension pulley. Tension pulley wear is a common fault on older AEG models specifically and can cause the belt to slip or fail prematurely. Straightforward repair — parts carried as standard.

Common on older AEG models

Electrical

Capacitor Failure

Motor capacitor failure is a common fault on older AEG tumble dryers — more so than on some other brands. The drum motor struggles to start or stops running. Capacitors are inexpensive and straightforward to replace once diagnosed.

Common on older AEG models

Heat pump

Temperature Sensor Failure

Failed temperature sensor on heat pump models causes the machine to shut down or not heat properly. Needs proper diagnosis to confirm before parts are ordered — can be confused with a blocked heat exchanger fault.

Heat pump

Heat Pump Compressor Failure

The most significant heat pump dryer fault. Compressor failure means the refrigerant circuit isn't working and the machine won't heat effectively. Repair cost often tips into replacement territory. We'll always give you an honest assessment.

About the Brand Group

AEG, Zanussi & Electrolux — One Group, Shared Expertise

All three brands are part of the Electrolux Group — shared parts platform and similar fault profiles mean we cover all three with the same expertise and stock.

AEG

Well-regarded mid to premium machines — now almost exclusively heat pump. Capacitor failure and tension pulley wear are characteristic of older AEG models. Generally reliable and worth repairing. Parts availability excellent across the group.

You're on the AEG page

Zanussi

Entry level spec on the same Electrolux platform. Simpler controls and fewer features but the same core components. Broadly the same fault profile as AEG. Parts cross over well and repairs are generally cost-effective.

Zanussi tumble dryer repair

Electrolux

Same group, same platform, same fault profile. Electrolux tumble dryers are less common than AEG and Zanussi but we repair them across all types. Parts availability is good and repairs are generally worthwhile.

Electrolux tumble dryer repair

John Lewis

John Lewis own-brand tumble dryers are often rebadged AEG or Electrolux machines — Electrolux Group parts can cross over. Worth checking before assuming your John Lewis dryer is unrepairable. Call us and we'll help identify the machine.

Which? Trusted Trader — 10 Years
Generally yes — AEG tumble dryers are reliable machines with good parts availability across the Electrolux Group. Most faults including belt and pulley failure, thermostat issues, capacitor failure and blocked condensers are cost-effective to repair. The main exception is heat pump compressor failure, where repair cost often tips into replacement territory. We'll always give you an honest steer.
Poor drying or not drying at all is the most common complaint — usually a blocked heat exchanger or condenser on heat pump and condenser models. Clean all accessible filters first as this can resolve the issue without a call-out. Belt and tension pulley failure and tripped thermostats are also common, particularly on older models.
Usually a tripped thermostat caused by restricted airflow from blocked filters or a blocked condenser. Unlike some safety cutouts, the thermostat won't reset on its own — it needs to be manually reset or replaced. The underlying airflow issue needs addressing at the same time to prevent it recurring.
Usually a snapped belt or worn tension pulley. Tension pulley wear is particularly common on older AEG tumble dryers and can cause the belt to slip or snap prematurely. Capacitor failure can also cause the drum motor to struggle to start. Both are straightforward repairs — parts carried as standard.
Yes — we repair all AEG heat pump dryers. Most faults including blocked heat exchangers, temperature sensor failures, belt and pulley issues and capacitor failure are straightforward to fix. Heat pump compressor failure is the exception where repair vs replace needs careful consideration — we'll give you an honest assessment.
Yes — Zanussi and Electrolux are part of the same group as AEG with shared parts platforms. We repair all three across heat pump, condenser and vented models. John Lewis own-brand tumble dryers are often rebadged AEG or Electrolux machines — give us a call if you're unsure.
