1. Door Seal Deterioration

The rubber door seal becomes brittle and cracked over time, especially on dishwashers 5+ years old. Small cracks allow water to seep out during the wash cycle, dripping into the base tray. This is one of the most common causes we see.

2. Hose Connections Loose or Split

Water supply hoses and internal hoses can work loose over time from vibration. Sometimes the hose itself splits or perishes. Even a small drip is enough to trigger E15 if it accumulates in the base tray.

3. Pump Seal Failure

The circulation pump has seals that can fail, allowing water to leak into the base. This is more serious than a hose issue and requires pump replacement or seal repair.

4. Salt or Rinse Aid Compartment Issues

If the salt reservoir lid isn’t properly closed, or if you’ve overfilled the rinse aid dispenser, excess liquid can leak into the base. This is one of the simpler causes to fix.

5. Cavity Leaks (Serious)

Occasionally, the dishwasher’s internal cavity or tub develops a crack or corrosion point. This is less common but more serious – it usually means the machine needs replacing rather than repairing.

❌ It doesn’t fix the leak

Draining the base doesn’t address why water got there in the first place. The leak will continue, and E15 will come back – often within days or even hours.

❌ Risk of further damage

Tilting an integrated dishwasher can damage fixings, put stress on hose connections, or cause internal components to shift. It can make the problem worse.

The right approach: E15 needs proper diagnosis to find the leak source, then a permanent repair. This means pulling the machine out, inspecting all hoses and seals, testing the pump, and fixing or replacing the faulty component.

1. Diagnose the leak source

We pull the dishwasher out and inspect all potential leak points – door seal, hoses, pump seals, salt compartment, and the cavity itself. E15 can be caused by something simple like a loose hose or something serious like a cracked tub, so proper diagnosis is essential.

2. Remove water and repair the fault

We safely drain the base tray, then fix or replace the faulty component – whether that’s a new door seal, tightening hose connections, replacing a pump seal, or something else.

3. Run brief fast cycle test

We run a full wash cycle while monitoring and checking for any noticeable leakage.

Note on intermittent leaks: Most E15 errors show a clear leak source during inspection. Occasionally, leaks are intermittent – only occurring under certain conditions or pressures during the wash cycle.

If this is the case, we’ll explain what we’ve checked and may run extended test cycles to replicate the conditions. Sometimes monitoring over a few washes helps pinpoint exactly when the leak happens, allowing us to target the repair more effectively.
