AEG Dishwasher Repairs

Quiet, efficient — and worth fixing when something goes wrong.

AEG dishwashers are well specified machines — quiet, efficient, and part of the Electrolux Group alongside Zanussi and Electrolux. Freestanding and integrated models are equally common and we repair both. Parts and diagnostic information are excellent across the group.

At Bath Washco we've been repairing AEG dishwashers across Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset for over 30 years. The I30 flood protection fault and heating element issues are among the most common faults we see — we carry parts for both in the van as standard and in most cases can fix them in a single visit.

One maintenance tip worth mentioning: keeping dishwasher salt topped up protects the heating element from limescale damage, particularly in hard water areas like Bath. It's a simple habit that can extend the life of the machine significantly.

Common AEG Dishwasher Faults & Error Codes

These are the faults we see most often on AEG, Zanussi and Electrolux dishwashers — from genuine day-to-day experience over 30 years.

I30

Flood Protection Activated

One of the most common AEG dishwasher faults. Water in the base tray triggers flood protection and the machine stops. There are several causes — a genuine leak from a door seal or hose, overfilling caused by a pressure sensor fault, poor draining allowing water to build up in the base, or in serious cases a leak from the body of the machine itself (BER territory). Needs proper diagnosis to identify the cause.

I40

Pressure Sensor Fault

A common fault across the group. The pressure sensor monitors water levels — when it fails the machine can overfill, which in turn triggers the I30 flood protection. Left unresolved an I40 fault can lead to water in the base tray. We see this chain of faults regularly on AEG dishwashers.

Can lead to I30 if left unresolved

Electrical

Heating Element Failure

The heating element is vulnerable on AEG dishwashers — one of the more common faults we see. Hard water accelerates failure, and low or empty salt levels contribute significantly. Dishes not drying or water not heating properly are the typical symptoms. Keeping salt topped up is the best preventive measure, particularly in hard water areas like Bath.

Sensor

Turbidity Sensor Failure

The turbidity sensor measures how dirty the water is and adjusts the wash cycle accordingly. When it fails it can cause the machine to skip the heating phase, resulting in poor wash results that can be mistaken for an element fault. Not always obvious — needs proper diagnosis to distinguish from a genuine element failure.

Can be mistaken for element fault

Mechanical

Drain Pump Fault

Machine not draining or draining slowly — usually a blocked filter, failed drain pump, or blocked drain hose. Check and clean the filter first as it's accessible without an engineer. A blocked drain can also contribute to water building up in the base tray, triggering I30.

Mechanical

Door Seal Leak

A worn or damaged door seal allows water to track into the base tray during the wash cycle, often triggering the I30 flood protection fault. On integrated models the leak may not be immediately visible as it's contained within the cabinet. Door seals are a common wear item and straightforward to replace.

Hard water area tip: Bath and the surrounding area has hard water. Keeping your dishwasher salt topped up protects the heating element from limescale damage and extends the life of the machine. It's one of the simplest things you can do to avoid a repair call-out.

About the Brand Group

AEG, Zanussi & Electrolux — One Group, Shared Expertise

All three brands are part of the Electrolux Group — shared parts platform and similar fault profiles mean we cover all three with the same expertise and stock.

AEG

Mid to premium positioning — well specified, quiet, and efficient. I30 flood protection and heating element faults are the most common issues we see. Freestanding and integrated models equally common. Parts availability excellent across the group.

You're on the AEG page

Zanussi

Entry level spec on the same Electrolux platform — simpler controls, fewer features, but the same core components underneath. Same fault profile as AEG including I30 and heating element issues. Parts cross over well across the group.

Zanussi dishwasher repair

Electrolux

Almost exclusively integrated and built-in — typically found in kitchen installations. Same group platform, same fault profile as AEG and Zanussi. Integrated machines should not be removed from the cabinet without an engineer — the supporting feet are fragile and easily broken if not handled with care.

Electrolux dishwasher repair

John Lewis

John Lewis own-brand dishwashers are often rebadged AEG or Electrolux machines — meaning Electrolux Group parts can cross over. Worth checking before assuming your John Lewis dishwasher is unrepairable or parts are unavailable. Give us a call and we'll help identify the machine.

AEG Dishwasher Repair — Common Questions

Which? Trusted Trader — 10 Years
In most cases yes — AEG dishwashers are well built with excellent parts availability across the Electrolux Group. Most faults including I30 flood protection, heating elements, pressure sensors and drain pumps are cost-effective to repair. We carry parts for the most common faults in the van as standard and most repairs are completed in a single visit.
I30 means water has been detected in the base tray — flood protection has triggered and the machine won't run. It has several possible causes: a door seal leak, a loose or split hose, overfilling caused by a pressure sensor fault, poor draining, or in serious cases a leak from the body of the machine itself. It needs proper diagnosis to identify the cause. We've written a full guide at bath-washco.co.uk/aeg-dishwasher-i30-error-code.
I40 indicates a pressure sensor fault — the sensor that monitors water levels has failed or is giving incorrect readings. This can cause the machine to overfill, which in turn triggers the I30 flood protection. We see this chain of faults regularly on AEG dishwashers. Resolving the I40 fault properly prevents the I30 from recurring.
Usually a failed heating element — one of the more common faults on AEG dishwashers. Hard water and low salt levels both accelerate element failure, so keeping salt topped up is worth doing particularly in the Bath area. Less commonly a turbidity sensor failure can cause the machine to skip the heating phase — this can be mistaken for an element fault. We carry elements as standard and can usually fix this in a single visit.
We'd advise against it. Tilting the machine drains the base tray temporarily but doesn't fix the underlying leak — the I30 will come back, often within days. It can also put stress on hose connections and internal components, potentially making things worse. The leak needs to be properly diagnosed and fixed.
Yes — Zanussi and Electrolux are part of the same group as AEG with shared parts platforms. We repair all three. Electrolux dishwashers are almost exclusively integrated — we're experienced with these and know not to remove them from the cabinet without care, as the feet are fragile. John Lewis own-brand dishwashers are often rebadged Electrolux Group machines too.
